Square Recessed Lights

Square recessed lighting is a functional and aesthetically pleasing option in modern spaces.

Recessed lights can be used to provide even illumination or focused task lighting, and choosing square fixtures helps complement contemporary design styles.

Square vs. Round Recessed Lights - What’s the Difference?

What differentiates square recessed lighting from traditional round recessed lights is that it features an angular, square-shaped housing.

Square recessed lights are a great choice for modern spaces or for areas like hallways or entryways that are long and linear. The square shape of these lights allows for a clean, streamlined look when installed evenly in a row.

What Size and Spacing Works Best?

Square recessed lighting requires precise installation as the angular lines are less visually forgiving when incorrectly lined up. When mapping out the placement of your recessed lighting, you’ll have to make sure to space them out by half of your ceiling height.

For 8 foot ceilings, place your recessed lights 4 feet apart to provide even light coverage across the space. The most common size of square recessed lights is 4 inches, with 6 inch varieties being better suited to large spaces.

Can Square Recessed Lights Go in a Bathroom or Outdoors?

Square recessed lights can be installed safely in areas that receive moisture, as long as you select fixtures that have the appropriate rating.

Wet or damp-rated recessed lights are used for bathrooms where they will be exposed to moisture, and exterior rated lights are the right choice for outdoor spaces where they will be subject to the elements year-round.
