Modern Pendant Lights

Modern pendant light designs feature sleek lines and minimal ornamentation, giving them a clean look.

Pendant light fixtures are versatile and can be installed on their own or in groups to complement modern interiors.

How High Should a Pendant Hang Over an Island or Table?

Pendant lights are often used in dining rooms or kitchens, and can be installed over island counters or dining tables. When installing pendants, allow for 30-36 inches of clearance below to avoid impeding movement or conversation.

How Many Pendants Do I Need, and How Far Apart?

Pendant lights can be installed in groups but it’s important to install the right amount of fixtures with correct spacing. A general rule of thumb for kitchen islands is to install one pendant light for every two feet of island length.

When installing, leave roughly 6 inches from the ends of the island and make sure that the center of the pendants are 24-30 inches apart to avoid overcrowding.

What Size Pendant Suits My Space?

It’s important to choose a pendant light that looks balanced. When choosing a fixture to hang over a table or counter, aim for one that is one-half to one-third of the width of the surface.

If hanging one in the center of a room, add the room’s dimensions in feet to give you the width of the fixture in inches.

Do Pendant Lights Work with Low or Sloped Ceilings?

Pendant lights come in a wide variety of styles and may be suited for low or sloped ceilings, given a few considerations. It’s important to allow enough clearance underneath the pendant from the lowest point of the ceiling.

Pendant lights hung on single cords can be a good choice for sloped ceilings where other fixtures might not hang correctly.
